We predominantly use Birdseye maple both for beauty and the strength of wood when used for thin pieces. Some Birdseye contains mineral staining. mineral staining is caused by minerals from the earth being drawn up through the roots manifesting itself typically as a greenish hue with green lines in it. It does not affect the strength of the wood. This is uncommon, however, and we are happy to provide the option for your order when available if you choose.

Other woods, i.e. cherry and walnut, are used for their beauty when strength is less of an issue.

Holes for thread storage are hand sanded and waxed, making them smooth enough to hold silks.
